On non-Samsung TVs, Samsung TV Plus streaming service may come

Samsung TV Plus

Samsung TV Plus is a streaming service with more than 220 “channels” of content to watch. This gives customers of Samsung smartphones and tablets, as well as owners of Samsung smart TVs, a free way to be entertained or informed. Now, Samsung TV Plus may one day be available on non-Samsung televisions.

According to the LowPass newsletter that Janko Roettgers sent out (via TheVerge), Samsung is in talks to bring the streaming service to TCL televisions. The South Korean company was said to have discussed bringing individual Samsung TV Plus channels to other TV brands, but those talks were said to have failed. As a result, the business is considering getting the entire video streaming service to TVs that aren’t Samsung.

Samsung TV Plus is a free, ad-supported streaming (FAST) service that launched in 2015 that lets users browse channels like live TV channels. It doesn’t require a subscription, and users don’t even have to sign up. Over 1,600 channels are available on Samsung TV Plus in 24 countries. It is free, but it has a lot of content, like Top Gear, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, Paramount Movie Channel, The Walking Dead, and Vevo, among other shows.

There are also some of Samsung’s channels on Samsung TV Plus, like Ride or Drive and The Movie Hub. The company claims that users worldwide watched 3 billion hours of its streaming service last year, an increase of 100 percent. The FAST market is expanding rapidly and contributing $4 billion to US revenue. By 2026, it is anticipated that these FAST services will generate $9 billion in revenue.

FAST services are offered by LG, Vizio, and TCL, among other TV manufacturers. As a result, it is unclear whether Samsung TV Plus would succeed outside of Samsung’s televisions, smartphones, and tablets.
