A new OLED panel for laptops has been unveiled by Samsung Display. It has a diagonal size of 16 inches, a 3K resolution, a 16:10 aspect ratio, and a 120Hz refresh rate. The business asserts that it is the first laptop OLED panel to incorporate a touchscreen. It made it clear that the panel would be used in Samsung’s Galaxy Book of the next generation.

According to the South Korean company that makes displays, incorporating a touchscreen panel into the display reduces the screen’s overall thickness and complexity. Because it does not require an additional plastic film for the distinct touchscreen layer, it is also better for the environment.

The first touchscreen-integrated OLED panel for smartphones was introduced by the company in 2010, and it was used in the original Galaxy S.

The Galaxy Book 3 Ultra, whose specifications were leaked a few days ago, is compatible with the new 16-inch OLED panel, although the company did not specify which Galaxy Book will use it. Because more laptop manufacturers are equipping newer models with OLED panels, Samsung Display intends to develop additional large-sized OCTA (On-Cell Touch AMOLED) panels for laptops.

Hojung Lee, Head of Product Planning Team for Small and Medium-sized Display Division at Samsung Display, said, “The difficulty level of the touch-integrated technology surges greatly as the display area increases, which leads to the increased number of touch sensors required. We were able to achieve the natural feel and touch responsiveness for larger displays through the development of new materials and process technologies.
