In the first quarter, Samsung Electronics is expected to release an OLED television with a 77-inch screen and a 49-inch screen. There will be three types of OLED televisions and two types of OLED monitors. Samsung Electronics intends to maintain its product brand, “Samsung OLED,” and has set a goal of actively selling OLED televisions this year. In the industry, it is thought that Samsung Electronics is still open to using the W-OLED panel from LG Display.
About 49-inch OLED monitor and a 77-inch
Recently, the industry was informed that Samsung Electronics intends to introduce a 49-inch OLED monitor and a 77-inch organic light-emitting diode (OLED) television in the first quarter. OLED monitors will become two types by adding 49 inches to the existing 34 inches, and Samsung Electronics’ OLED televisions will become three types by adding 77 inches to the existing 55 inches and 65 inches. Samsung Display Quantum Dot (QD)-OLED is used in all panels.
It is known that Samsung Electronics intends to ship more than 1.2 million OLED televisions this year. This is 2.5 times more than the 450,000 OLED TVs sold last year, according to data compiled by market researcher UBI Research. In the second quarter of the previous year, Samsung Electronics introduced new 55-inch and 65-inch OLED televisions.
It is known that Samsung Electronics intends to maintain the “Samsung OLED” product brand while actively selling OLED televisions this year. The industry believes that Samsung Electronics has left the door open for LG Display’s white (W)-OLED panel to be used in the future.
This is due to the possibility of consumer confusion if Samsung Electronics uses brands like “QD” for OLED televisions this year and uses a different brand for W-OLED televisions in the future. There are still a lot of customers who are unable to tell the difference between OLED, Neo QLED, and QLED.
OLED monitor
This year’s Samsung Electronics television business plan does not include any models featuring the W-OLED panel from LG Display. However, Samsung Electronics can quickly produce and launch OLED televisions if it receives LG Display’s stock of W-OLED.
Meanwhile, Samsung Electronics requested a 48-inch OLED TV panel from Samsung Display last year, but Samsung Display reportedly chose a 49-inch OLED monitor instead. Two sheets of 77 inches and two sheets of 48 inches, or two sheets of 77 inches and two sheets of 49 inches, can be made from a single 8.5-generation glass disc. When making panels of various sizes from the original glass, multi-model glass (MMG) technology is used.
It is believed that Samsung Display decided to produce 49-inch OLED monitor panels and 77-inch OLED TV panels simultaneously in response to the rising demand for high-end monitors. A 49-inch monitor can increase user immersion by being elongated, like two 27-inch monitors attached to the left and right.
“For OLED TV, we added a 77-inch model along with the existing 55-inch and 65-inch models to provide consumers with more choices, 57-inch (curved mini LED LCD gaming monitor) and We will release a large 49-inch OLED gaming monitor,” Samsung Electronics stated on this day in a conference call announcing its results for the fourth quarter of the previous year.
