One UI is fundamentally a UI skin that is primarily based on Android and developed by Samsung Electronics. Essentially, it is compatible with Android devices that run Android 9 and higher versions. While for Windows devices running Windows 11 and higher. This evolve in order to bring the best user experience, as compared to the previous Samsung Experience and Touchwiz. Since both of these are tagged as their predecessor version respectively.
This set of software under one hood is a motive to make Samsung’s hardware and software perfectly work together at the perfect pace and provide a more natural experience on large-screen smartphones. One UI depicts most of the features that were in the Samsung Experience UX.
When it was launched?
Talking about its inception then One UI was announced at Samsung’s developer conference in 2018. And it was introduced in Galaxy unpacked in February 2019. This is based on Android 9, and it is revealed along with the Galaxy S10 series, Galaxy Buds, and Galaxy Fold respectively.
Need & Version History of One UI
The need for Samsung One UI arises in the form of better Android skins that works smoothly with all the apps and across all devices. It’s basically the replacement of the Samsung Experience which also proves as one of the great Android skins, that too comes with ample innovative features. It materialized as the old skins that have their placement across new phones as well as in similar older devices.
One UI 1.0
As the name indicates, this would be the first version of One UI, and it has been launched on top of Android 9. While subsequently, it has brought many new features which become gradually renowned among users.
One UI 1.1
It brings a little update over One UI 1.0. It resolves the facial recognition stability, Camera, and fingerprint. In One UI 1.1, it also boosts performance optimizations.
One UI 1.5
In this, it brought a specific update for the Galaxy smartwatch along with some minor chunks of updates. It allows us to bring native Links to Windows support. While it has its debut with the Galaxy Note 10 series on August 23, 2019.
One UI 2.0
One UI 2.0 introduced the second generation update to One UI. This is based on the top of Android 10. Since every new version will bring new features and enhanced functionality. Therefore here in this variant, it brings a skinned Digital well-being experience, more refined UI, and some more including:
- Little UI change to the clock position in quick settings,
- A native screen recorder, the new Android 10 gesture system,
- Dynamic Lock Screen,
- A Trash folder in Files, native Android Auto, and harder Location permission access.
One UI 2.1
It’s a minor update over One UI 2.0, and it brings their support for Galaxy devices that substantially provide a 120 Hz refresh rate, Quick Share, Music Share, additional camera modes, and native support for Live Captions.
One UI 2.5
Although, the update doesn’t bring any major alteration to the UI. Whereas, it sums up many new features to the camera, DeX, gesture navigation, and other services. It is unveiled with Galaxy Note 20 series in Galaxy Unpacked 2020.
One UI 3.0
This is the third variant of One UI which is based on Android 11 and was released for Galaxy S20 devices. It substantially brings a lot of required update revisions, that comprises of the following:
- A translucent notification panel,
- New volume controls are positioned on the right or left of the device alongside the physical volume keys,
- Little enhanced widgets and,
- Smoother animations and transitions throughout the whole UI.
One UI 3.1
It is a slight update to One UI 3.0, first seen in the Galaxy S21 series. One UI 3.1 comes with a lot of better functionality for the camera including:
- Touch autofocus and auto exposure controller and
- Improved Single Take feature and software implementations.
One UI 4.0
Notably, this version of One UI is based on Android 12, and it’s the fourth generation of One UI. This version is released to the Galaxy S21 series. Here in One UI 4, it aims at customization, privacy, and access to Samsung’s expanding ecosystem.
One UI 4.1
One UI 4.1 is a small update to One UI 4, and it first debuted with the Samsung Galaxy S22 series. However, it doesn’t bring any radical changes, while some of the features including Smart Calender are mentioned below:
- The option to choose an option how much virtual RAM is required,
- Redesigned palette picker,
- Smart Widgets,
- Separate Left/Right audio balance,
- Extra brightness toggle,
- Pro Mode on more cameras,
- Night Mode portraits, and other minor changes.
One UI 4.5
This is based on the Android 12L which is considered to be the major update for One UI 4. While the version debuted with the flagship foldable, the Galaxy Z Fold4 and the Z Flip4 respectively on August 2022. The most distinct features that were added here in this are New emojis 14.0 such as Melting Face, Saluting Face, Mirror Ball, Beans, and more.
One UI 5
This is based on Android 13, and this is the fifth generation version of One UI which was announced on 12 October 2022. Whereas, it make its public appearance on 24 October 2022. This acquired place first in the Samsung Galaxy S22 series along with various other models such as Galaxy Z Flip4 and Galaxy Z Fold4 respectively.
Features that substantially being part of One UI 5 updates are as follows:
- The ability to turn off the RAM Plus feature,
- A redesigned way of customizing the lock screen, similar to iOS 16,
- Material You was also expanded to most Google and Samsung Apps along with some third-party apps,
- One UI 5 also brings refreshed icons for a more-refined look across the UI.
One UI 5.1
This was introduced in the form of a minor update over One UI 5.0. This have been announced on 1 February 2023, while broadcast to use on 13 13 February 2023 for the Samsung Galaxy S23 series. One UI 5.1 comes with a lot of enhanced features in order to make the user experience better, it includes:
- New multitasking features,
- Weather and a new battery widget,
- Settings and Spotify suggestions,
- Camera and Gallery features, as well as improvements such as the ability to change the color tone for selfies,
- Enhanced image remastering, and revamped info display.
One UI 6
This is one of the most anticipated and upcoming UI by Samsung, which is based on Android 14. Since the company always came with One UI Beta with each of its variants. Samsung streamlined its software update policies, the workout is done, in order to recognize which devices will get the Android 14 One UI 6.0 update.
Apparently, we can expect this year’s Beta program to go live in the third quarter of the year. In contrast, every Android OS upgrade is bolstered by a new One UI version. Therefore, this time, Android 14 will be coupled with One UI 6.0.
